We are all Track Whores - musicians, scrapin' up those collections of sounds and puttin' it out there - whoring the dressed-up, dumbed-down tracks at local record shops, radio rooms, TV studios and movie sound stages. Too often, the record label pimps keep us from collaborating with other professional musicians - and creating what is truly creative.
Track Whore is an ongoing collective project which aims to bring musicians and producers together with few rules (legal or musical) other than the rule to produce it quickly, of high-quality and of some genre - the first 3 volumes of the Sampling the World for When it Breaks series are all 88 BPM - San Diego Downtempo.
Individual musicians contribute tracks just as they would with their band - often, though, the first or second take is one that is used. Musicians may also contribute tracks which are up to 88% finished, allowing some other producer to finish it off. The tracks are massaged electronically to fit in cohesive pieces. The final mixes are then rushed to duplication, in, often, less than 6 weeks.
Everyone involved in the Track Whore project is a working musician or producer. We don't make any money directly from any of the recordings (which allows us to be even more creative with the sampled aspect of our art). However, as was stated, we are all Track Whores and, yes, everything's for sale. If you need a sound, a drum programmer, a studio percussionist, a club to play in, or help mastering your CD, CDROM or DVD, hire one of us - we're puttin' in out there.
